TECE hygiene flush wins German Design Award 2021
Inspection openings are a thorn in the side of every aesthete. With the TECEprofil toilet module with integrated hygiene flush there is no need for an additional inspection opening, which improves the spatial effect of the bathroom. That’s why the innovative product is being honoured with the German Design Award 2021, voted winner in the “Excellent Product Design – Bath and Wellness” category for outstanding design quality. A special award for a product that practically performs its hygienic function in secret.
The potable water hygiene flushing station from TECE is the first such solution that disappears “invisibly” in the cistern while at the same time remaining easily accessible for commissioning and maintenance by removing the toilet flush plate. This clever idea persuaded the jury from the German Design Council, which honoured the product with the German Design Award 2021, voted winner in the “Excellent Product Design – Bath and Wellness” category: “The TECEprofil toilet module has an integrated hygiene flush that can be conveniently controlled via an app. An interesting product that eliminates the need for an additional inspection opening in the bathroom, thereby contributing to the clearest possible overall picture.”
Like some 90 percent of TECE products, the TECEprofil toilet module with integrated hygiene flush does its job reliably and unnoticed behind the wall, but because there is no additional inspection opening, design and configuration also play a major role here – two of the company's areas of expertise. “We are pleased that our toilet module with integrated hygiene flush is also enjoying high recognition in the area of design,” says TECE Managing Director Hans-Joachim Sahlmann. “The jury of the German Design Awards was just as inspired by the combination of engineering, product design and understanding of room architecture as the sanitary and property market.”
The German Design Award is one of the most prestigious design prizes in the world and is only awarded annually to products that a top-class jury considers to be pioneering in the German and international design landscape. The official awards ceremony and the exhibition opening for the award-winning products will be held on 19 February 2021, as part of the Ambiente international consumer goods fair in Frankfurt.

The aim of the hygiene flush is to avoid stagnation in the cold and hot water piping during 'abnormal operation' such as a break in use of several days or potential planning errors. This reduces health threats from microorganisms in the potable water to a minimum. The flush water that ensures the continuous, hygienic operation of the potable water installation is discharged via the cistern.
The flush programs are conveniently set using the app according to the pipe volume via a Bluetooth interface. There are also two inputs and outputs that can be used to control the flush unit via the Smart Home bus system or building control technology. Usage recognition ensures the flush is only actuated if the installation is not used sufficiently.
