Sommerro Oslo – Where history comes to life

Vellkommen til Sommerro Hotel Oslo: an architectural masterpiece in the heart of the vibrant Frogner neighbourhood. Where the electricity for the city of Oslo used to be managed, the hotel now offers accommodation in Art Deco style. Under the direction of the Norwegian architecture firm LPO in close collaboration with the interior design studio GrecoDeco London, the building has been carefully renovated and now shines in contemporary splendour. Since its reopening in September 2022, the Sommerro Hotel has been welcoming guests and visitors from all over the world and inviting them on an unforgettable journey back in time.

The Sommerro Hotel is more than just accommodation - it is a true experience: with seven restaurants and bars, numerous meeting and event rooms and a generous wellness area of 8000 square metres, including the lavishly renovated Vestkantbadet, the hotel offers a wide range of options for locals and tourists alike. The Sommerro also sees itself as a cultural meeting place for Oslo locals: in addition to immersive programmes in the event rooms, the hotel also hosts concerts, pop-up events and performances in its own theatre.

Not only beautiful, but also steeped in history

Built in the first half of the 20th century, the building combines neoclassical aesthetics with numerous art deco elements. The curated art collection by renowned museum expert Sune Nordgren adds a special touch to the hotel's atmosphere. The collection complements the works by Per Krohg on display in the building, including an impressive fresco in the main hall or the impressive mosaic in the sauna area by the pool, and gives the hotel a distinctive character.

Sleeping paradise with a nostalgia factor

The interior design of the 231 rooms and suites was inspired by the 1930s: rich colours, opulent and custom-made furniture and oak parquet floors create a nostalgic atmosphere - without sacrificing comfort and modernity.
The Art Deco style is consistently continued in the bathrooms. The Italian company Devon & Devon developed a customised version of the iconic Etoile Washstand, which is fitted with two glass shelves and a matching Black ceramic top. In this special ambience, the high-end products from TECE find their appropriate use and fit seamlessly into the aesthetics and design concept: In addition to a large number of carefully selected TECE flush plates, which were installed in the Sommerro, the TECEloop flush plate in black glass, among others, sets high-quality accents in the orange tiled bathrooms and harmonises perfectly with the custom-made Etoile washstand. Particularly robust and easy to clean, it also effortlessly withstands the high demands of individual user groups.

The TECEnow flush plate in white also creates exciting colour contrasts in the bathrooms. In addition to its appearance, the TECE product also impresses with its pleasant operating feel: the rich, mechanical feel of the rubber-buffered flush button contributes to the high-quality overall impression. In addition, both models - TECEloop and TECEnow - are characterised by the proven dual-flush technology, which enables both a small, for economical consumption, and a larger flush volume.

The installed TECEprofil toilet modules are optimally adapted to the country-specific features of the technical version. This is because the timber construction method commonly used in Scandinavian countries requires a high level of protection against moisture damage, which can be caused by frost damage, for example. With conventional toilet modules, the sensitive wooden constructions must therefore be protected by elaborate sealing in front of and behind the cisterns. The TECE solution makes things easier: thanks to a safety bag, a watertight bag made of strong, age-resistant PVC, only one sealing layer is required in front of the wall - there is no need for the time-consuming installation of a watertight barrier behind the module. Any water that leaks is collected in the safety bag, drained into the bathroom in front of the wall and finally drains away in the obligatory floor drain. This not only saves money and time during installation, but also effectively protects against expensive water damage.
So nothing stands in the way of a fantastic hotel stay.
