AM TACHELES - a new piece of the city in the heart of Berlin

An extraordinary place for living, working, shopping, art and culture: with the AM TACHELES urban quarter, a new centre of attraction has been created around Aaron-Bernstein-Platz in Berlin Mitte - a truly cosmopolitan piece of the city. The new urban space was designed by the Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron from Basel in close collaboration with the renowned Berlin architecture firms Grüntuch Ernst and Brandlhuber+ Muck Petzet Büro and invites you to stroll, linger and live. Since September 2023, not only the new city quarter AM TACHELES has been enriched by an attractive new square, but also the whole of Berlin.

An extraordinary place for living, working, shopping, art and culture: the AM TACHELES urban quarter has created a new centre of attraction around Aaron-Bernstein-Platz in Berlin Mitte - a truly cosmopolitan piece of the city.

Past and present merge into a remarkable setting where history breathes and the future takes shape. The square is named after the German-Jewish writer, scientist and co-founder of the Jewish Reform Community Aaron Bernstein. With his name, the city quarter honours the square's multifaceted Jewish past and at the same time keeps the spirit of the former Tacheles alive. Originally opened in 1908, the Friedrichstraßenpassage in the Spandauer Vorstadt neighbourhood was regarded as the central junction between Friedrichstraße and Oranienburger Straße. The architects have revitalised this important connection and are now giving this part of Berlin a whole new flair.

On a total area of 23,346 square metres, six very individually designed residential buildings, four sophisticated office buildings and various catering and cultural facilities have found their place. Almost 50 newly planted trees will turn the square into a green lung in the heart of Berlin. With the opening of the contemporary museum for photography, art and culture "Fotografiska", the former Kunsthaus Tacheles will once again become a place for culture.

Architectural uniqueness

The total of 280 residential units in the AM TACHELES neighbourhood with their diverse flat types stand for architectural individuality. Each of the residential buildings has its own distinctive and customized furnishing concept, with the exclusive interior design meeting the highest standards. This naturally also applies to the bathrooms. The sanitary equipment creates a harmonious combination of timeless aesthetics and innovative technology. A total of 48 standard toilet modules were installed. The low-noise, hydraulic filling valve of the cisterns ensures particularly quiet filling of the cistern. Toilet modules with integrated hygienic flush for hot and cold water connections were also installed. This intelligent function enables automatic flushing of the pipes at customizable intervals. This is because longer interruptions in use lead to stagnation and microbiological contamination of the drinking water. This ensures a constant and hygienic water supply at all times. Thanks to completely pre-assembled components, the installation effort is extremely low. The TECEsquare and TECElux Mini flush plates ensure uniform and elegant fittings. They not only impress with their design, but also score highly in terms of convenience. The simple installation and intuitive handling make them an ideal addition to the toilet systems.
